So I've not been going to therapy or anything for a few years now, but things are starting to get to where I can't handle it on my own. I was wondering if I should start going again or not. I just dread it because I also have social anxiety and panic disorder and they hit the most when I'm around new people and people who are analyzing me. I can't figure out on my own what would be the best to do... any time I try to figure it out and weight the good and bad, I get panicy and have to step away with no conclusion as to what to do. Any helpful advice would be great.

Hey, from what you're describing, it sounds like you need outside help. I wholeheartedly understand the difficulty of starting treatment. It may be worthwhile to get recommendations about an attentive and empathetic therapist who can contain the social anxiety and panic. The beginning is difficult, but I believe that the process will only get better with time for you.

My panic anxiety disorder caused pseudoseizures, they looked like real seizures but lasted until I passed out. I know from experience, that a craft like crochet or knit, works very well with keeping me calm, to where I no longer am in counseling and psycho- therapy, nor am I medicated. I don't know what it is about it, but it works wonderfully. Plus when you get angry, or frustrated stabbing at the yarn with hook or needles, is very therapeutic.

Hi Saberaven! I can totally relate to you🤗 It's really embarrassing and hard for me to open up in front of someone else, especially when I know his job is to analyze me. Sharing those feelings with my therapist, right in the beginning of the treatment helped me a lot. Also finding the right therapist is not easy, its important that after a couple of sessions you'll feel more relaxed with him/her. Good luck🙏

I can really relate to what you're feeling, my advice is to try and get a recommendation for a suitable therapist in your area and give it at least five sessions before even thinking about its value. Even just getting a recommendation and scheduling the first appointment is a big and important first step. Good luck, we're here for you!

I definitely agree with what Alberto said. The bad times are the times in our lives that we need to be stronger and step out of our comfort zone in order to make things better. I understand from what you wrote that you used to go to therapy? Maybe try to go back to your old therapist who you already know. You already did a big part of the work which is to admit that something is wrong now continue to help yourself

Hey, it sounds like you’re in a difficult place.. I think, even though it will have its price, that therapy is the right place for you to discuss all your difficulties and get help. Do you maybe have a therapist you already know? That way it will feel less frightening… anyway, I believe you should just let them know what’s triggering you and work through it together

Thank you everyone. This really helps. And I'm not good at talking on the phone or in person. I'd rather just blend into the shadows unnoticed for the most part. I don't like having people be close to me bc I can't trust new people like that with knowing much of anything about myself. It takes a while for me to get used to someone new

You got this! You have anticipatory anxiety at the beginning but once you get to know the therapist it should wear off. It did for me.

Hey, I think you’ve already answered. You said that you can’t handle it on your own. When we suffer from something within our body we go see a doctor to help us go through it because we can't always do it on our own. The same goes for mood disorders. We need to see a professional, whether a therapist or a psychiatrist, to guide us through this condition.

Does it help if you are telehealth?

I think it’s super important you go if you think you need too. If you find the right one the social part helps
