Does anyone else get extremely upset when something doesn't go their way? Not like a spoiled child, like someone didn't buy me this thing, like, this light didn't turn green when I counted it down and now my day is ruined and I don't want do talk to anyone. My friends and partner don't have autism, and think I'm really weird for this, so I was wondering if it was a autism thing?

this is definitely a thing! we thrive on structure and get thrown completely off balance when something doesn't go the way we expected. i guess you can think of it like a jenga tower? the tower is fine on its own, but taking away one brick can make the whole thing fall down. so you're definitely not alone, it's not pleasant but it's normal!

A lot of autistic people also have OCD and it may be down to that, consciously or subconsciously things have to go a certain way for it to feel like everything will be okay, and that could be tied to anything. A lot of the more publicised OCD is doing something a set number of times, or continuously performing an action, but it can also be needing to complete certain steps in a certain way to alleviate a feeling of incompletion, fear or dread and it can also be intrusive thoughts or repetitive thoughts which when they are not matched with reality can be distressing because it's not how it's meant to go. I'd consider this a possibility personally.

yep I know this feeling! like the world is supposed to be a certain way, and it makes no sense that it could choose to be anything else

@avian really appreciate that metaphor!! a huge thing today was my parents had a lie in and it really made me angry because it never normally happens but they got angry at me as they thought i was just being awkward :((

@avian That makes a lot of sense, thank you! Yeah, it definitely feels like the tower comes tumbling down when something small goes wrong, and it really sucks
