So I've just had the wildest and most horrid American Healthcare system Experience known to man. TW for obvious hospital reasons. I had been running a low grade fever for a few days, and out of concern my ✨dear sweet father✨ hailed an EMT VEHICLE TO MY LOCATION. Now normally this wouldn't be a problem. The fever, I mean. I've had colds before. But this fever made me miss class, AND made me just almost not EAT for an entire day because I was just dizzy and disoriented and confused. Everytime I tried to walk it felt like gravity itself was trying to fight me. Even just walking to my desk to take my Happy Meds tm was a whole painful excursion that took most of my energy. I was guzzling water and sweating it all out profusely. So yeah. Kinda fair. My dad thought I caught Covid and since my campus no longer does testing for SOME reason, I was yote to the nearest hospital. I get there at 4:30. I spend the next SEVERAL HOURS getting poked at with needles, prodded with the nasal swipes, and overall feeling more and more like garbage because I still hadn't eaten yet. Not to mention? Because of my circumstances, I was all alone back there. For literal hours. Having multiple anxiety attacks over needles, being alone through difficult experiences, and missing work. All for the doctors to say: "...Yeah so we're discharging you because we have NO idea what's going on." I tested negative for the Flu, Covid, Mono, and several other viral infections. But despite still sweating profusely (my temperature as soon as I got to the hospital went back to normal and was back up by this morning 🙄) and looking like SHIT, they discharged me. On top of it all? I asked for doctors notes for the next few days so I could ride out whatever was wrong with me. They said they couldn't without a proper diagnosis- yknow the same one they refused to spend more time figuring out. And no stronger medications to help with the fever and sweating because "Ibeuprofen should be enough to ease the fever!" (As if I hadn't been guzzling down the reccomended intake for the last few days.) My dad and partner picked me up at Midnight, after I got discharged at 10. And today, still with a low-grade fever and sweating through my clothes and feeling nauseous everytime I walk, I still had to attend class because of a lack of doctors note. 😀😀😀 So yeah... the American Healthcare System is a damn joke.
