Prilosec causing upset stomach and acid reflux?

Is it normal for Prilosec (capsules with beads) to GIVE me unreasonably upset stomach and acid reflux? I've had GERD since probably 9ish and just dealt with it, but teen years started my days with a horrible belch and a vomit and then chugging 20oz and brushing my teeth. It hasnt been quite *that* bad in some years, but it definitely fluctuates here snd there. Usually its just that thing where the sphincter starts to open snd I'll pause speech or whatever for a sec until I feel it close bsck up and then I can continue, I don't get the rising bile much unless I eat a bunch of processed trash (7yr vegan i dont eat bs ever, this comment means like a bag of Gardetto's...) But my PCP gave me Prilosec and the first two days have been HELL. I have to keep stopping to just open my throat snd let these huge rips of gas pass, and then i get a burn at the bottom of my aesophagus to end the lovely experience. I'm also waking with that old, familiar warmth and tingle again... My father died from esophageal cancer at 50, but it was contributed to cocaine use and "drip." So I hadn't really thought of it much, until a few weeks ago filling out paperwork for the PCP when I answered my ex-smoker questions right before listing family medical history. is this normal? A warning of something? My PCP is on vacation through the week, so I can't call him and ask right now.
