Any tips for tension headaches? I get such bad ones sometimes that even the back half of my tongue tenses up, which I can’t seem to do anything about, not to mention the headache and neck-ache and shoulder-ache…. I try doing relaxing things, massaging, avoiding screens and things I have to focus my eyes too much for, hot drinks…. Showers help, but it comes back within twenty minutes. So I don’t even bother with that most of the time because I usually don’t have the executive function for all of the things involved in before-/after-shower transitions. Ah, I should also mention that sometimes they’re from stress, sometimes it’s just from muscle pain in nearby areas, or if my neck wasn’t supported when I slept, etc.

You might consider seeing a neurologist. I know mine put me on some maintenance stuff that helps a ton with my tension headaches. I'm on a mild muscle relaxer, and also have some meds to take when I do get a headache. Neck and shoulder massagers, heat pads, and aromatherapy also help me. Especially mint tea or essential oil. You might also look up neck stretches or try deep breathing relaxation techniques. A friend of mine swears by weekly acupuncture. Hope some of that helps.

Weekly half-hour massages combined with hourly stretches while working holds my headaches to two a month instead of two a week.

@ZionTist I noticed that sometimes when I binge TV slouching on the couch it will trigger a headache.

Any self care should be able to help.

@Ash.G It doesn’t do much to relieve them lately (I don’t understand why, since it used to), but at least it keeps it from getting a lot worse.

@serendi that is a good bright side. I might take a bath tomorrow morning as I am in a lot of pain and maybe it'll help me because I just don't want to feel dirty and in pain.
