I think I am becoming tolerant to my current dose of Concerta…does anyone have any experience with this? Think about possibly switching meds but scared to have trouble finding others that work

So I don't think this will help much- I was on Focalin and it worked great for years! Then I switched to Vyvanse and it worked for... 3 days? Then I switched to concerta and I don't know if I can even really say it worked. It was so inconsistent. But it helped sometimes. I kept upping the dose because I had no side effects which was better than Focalin (which made me suicidal) or Vyvanse (which made it so my eyes wouldn't be able to focus sometimes as well as other things). But it just didn't work for me. However, I tried all those medications in the XR versions. I'm going to try short release next and see if that helps. I have been told XR just does not work for some people and gives them inconsistent energy. I'll update if I find anything that does help me!!

What dosage are you on? Are you on XR or do you have to take it 2 times a day?

@Y0g1 i’m on 36 mg once a day i don’t think it’s xr but i totally could be wrong
Has anyone experienced there dr only giving them there concerta 5 days instead of 7?
@Nononame I think this recommendation is just ill informed. Taking breaks helps keep tolerance down. Often weekends are easy breaks hence the idea of 2 days a week. However different people have different like styles. Take break days when ever you can. Try to schedule light days you can take breaks. They don't have to be 2 days in a row or even 2 days specifically. The idea behind the suggestion is just take breaks when you can because if you don't your medication will be less effective on the days you need it most.
@Nononame that was what my doctor suggested to me (though he didn’t demand it). It’s supposed to help you not need to up your dosage as quickly. I cannot go two days in a row off my meds, though. I end up just napping and sleeping on the second day. I take med holidays when I can, but it’s not every week.
I started on Concerta and it worked for a bit and then stopped. I’ve since found out that generic Concerta is often not as effective, and my insurance stopped paying for brand-name Concerta about 6 months after my diagnosis, so I do wonder if the switched to generic is the reason it didn’t work as well. I ended up switching to Vyvanse. I mostly like it, though early on I was on too high of a dose and had horrible sleep quality. It has raised my resting heart rate and blood pressure a tad, but overall, I’ve liked it.
having this same fear rn cause it used to keep me up but now my hypersomnia is coming back
I've not tried Concerta. I've been on Vyvanse 70mg for about 5 years now and I'm having the same problem with tolerance. I really liked the Vyvanse and am afraid to try something new. I tried Adderall before but it didn't seem to work well and I think it made me very irritable. How long have you been on Concerta?
@LSneiderwine i’ve been on it for almost a year…i was on ritilan before that for another year, i’m not sure if that’s even long enough to build a tolerance
