I have really bad generalized anxiety. I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve never been able to get a job. I dissociate and panic when I experience high levels of anxiety. I’ve only worked as a cashier for a family business and I couldn’t do it. I would panic anytime conflict happened. I’m thirty now. How do you cope? Any job recommendations? Is there anything online I can do? Please help. Any advice is seriously appreciated.

I work as a night janitor and politely refuse any offers to work during operating hours. It gets me out of the house and I get a wage without having to worry about dealing with people outside of rare occassions.

I have this issue as well, the best job that I've found so far is doordash. If you have a car or bike it could help. You could also follow Melisia at Home on YouTube. She's always posting new work from home jobs for people. Lots of different types of jobs too.

I'm in the same boat. The last time I tried to get a job, I was sabotaged by someone who wanted their nephew to get the position so that made the paranoia that comes with my anxiety even worse. I don't qualify for any assistance so my family is really struggling. Now I'm 40 with a 20 year gap in my work history.

@bbgdaryl Thank you for sharing your experience. When our worries seem to come true, that is really difficult. I can relate to the paranoia that come from anxious thoughts. This is really tough, especially when it effects our families :(

Hi Star, thank you for sharing your experience. Im currently experiencing something very similar. I also have generalized anxiety, and it has specifically gotten worse around working again. Ive had to drop 2 opportunities over the last 6 months due to the anxiety triggering me so badly. Im here to talk and share, its always nice to be heard and hear people who go through similar things. Feel free to send me a message

@Brobi1 Thank you so much for being open with your experience. Managing anxiety is so difficult and isolating, especially when it interferes with regular life. Thank you for being welcome to chat. I still have a lot of anxiety socializing, so that is an offer I can’t take just yet. Just trying to post here and there to slowly interact. Thank you again for your response. I appreciate it.

Hi Star, thanks for sharing. I can relate. I'm often stuck in automatic fear based reactions. My therapist has encouraged me to consider all possible outcomes e.g. if a customer is upset or if an employee is being rude. Write them all down. Make it a looooong list. Then, of those, write down the worst case scenario, the best case scenario and what is actually *likely* to happen so 3x total. The list really helps me release from rumination. And I'll finish with some box breathing (in for 4, hold 4, out for 4, hold 4). I appreciate your vulnerability with sharing your experience. Sending steadying vibes.

@moonlight37 Thank you for responding. I really appreciate your feedback. It helps feeling not alone in this experience. I will try writing these things down. Hopefully it will help me process things better. Breathing definitely helps being present. Thank you.
