i’ve been in a major depressive episode since august of 2021, and it recently seemed like it may be stabalizing (although nowhere near where i’d hope to be). but i am all of the sudden just as bad as when it started in august, and it feels like the cycle will never end. i’m scared that it’s been so long that my support system be less understanding, or become disappointed that i’m worse again. i dont know what to do. has anyone had any similar experiences?

your support system loves you and will be there for you unconditionally. Do not be afraid, over the years I have learned that family and friends are always there, even though it is difficult and exhausting. Concentrate on your process and do not waste energy on such thoughts. In the end, you will succeed in 'breaking' the cycle and you will reach a calm period in which you will feel good about yourself.

Yes! Having chronic depression for me looks like going down and staying down and as I work it gets better over time and then goes down again. It’s not my fault nor is it yours. Depression does that but don’t lose hope! If you keep doing what you can, and practicing self care as you can then you will start coming up again. Healing isn’t linear, you will have “relapses” that aren’t your fault. You can and will heal but it’s a long process and worth it! If your support system gets mad, try to explain that 1. Healing isn’t linear, you will have ups and downs, 2. This isn’t your fault or lack of trying, and 3. You need support and it looks like X. If you have the energy for that and if they still get mad then they aren’t a good support system. It sucks but better to realise who really wants the best for you and is willing to do that. You are not responsible for the feelings or reactions of others. Alls you can do is what you can do. Much love through this difficult time ❤️
