Has Gabapentin helped anyone with pain management? If so at what dosage? I'm 300mg 3x's a day and the pain still stops me at times.

I nearly lost a lot thanks to gapapentin its very dangerous it affects your memory, your ability to function. I ended up at neuropsychiatry due to the fact doc thought I had early onset dementia, it was the drug

I used to take gabapentin for anxiety, and it didn't really manage my pain as well. Now I take pregablin and that's a similar drug that works better for pain, although it works less well for anxiety. You'd have to have a high dose of gabapentin if it's for pain

I got addicted to gabapentin over the course of 2 years and had to taper down in the summer. Experienced terrible withdrawal symptoms such as bad anxiety, agitation, and depression and it made me suicidal.

I'm on 400mg 4x a day. It helps a lot, but gives me memory fog.

I take 800 4xs a day, hydrocodone 4xs a day, marijuana gummies 1/2 to 1 gummy at least 3xs a day. I am also on other meds as well.

It doesn't really help my pain much. I'm on 900 mg a day . My Dr has me take 600 mg during the day and 300 mg before bed

I've been on gabapentin 800mg 3 times a day for 28 years with cymbalta 120mg a day and 10mg Flexeril at night, not for muscle spasms, but for stage four sleep...this combo has worked well for me over the years...

I started on 300mg once a day and it quickly made my anxiety awful. I had never been that constantly anxious since taking anxiety meds so it was almost scary. Also didn’t help even a little bit with the pain but that could’ve also been since I was taking such a low dose for it

Helps with my nerve pain slightly. Tho I’m on 600 three times a day. 300 wasn’t enough. But I also take tizanidine for my pain too. 4mg three times a day as needed. But I’m not well managed.

😥 I tried that for years with no change in my pain also. They never tried anything else until recently. I found a doctor that let me try another medication and it works! I had restless leg syndrome and cramps that kept me up all night. I'm not sure if the spelling. I think it's Ropinarole! That spelling is wrong but close enough! There is actually several I could have tried.

I was taking 600 MG 3xd and it never really did anything. I was on it for 15 years, now I have massive memory problems. Lyrica was a blessing for me.

When I broke my leg & discovered in allergic to tramadol my doctor put me on gabapentin 300mg every 8 hours & Tylenol. I had break through pain but he said that is normal even under the best of circumstances. After surgery I was on gabapentin, pregabalin & cyclobenzaprine every 8 hours. I had pain the entire time for 2 months while on them. Slowly the pain did get better as I healed. I'm down to only once a day, so I'm happy about that. I have been told that no medication is 100% affective at reducing pain. Weather, activity, mid, etc week affect how well it works. If you are having frequent breakthrough pain then talk to your doctor about increasing or creating a custom concoction of meds

It helps me. I take 800 mg 4x a day. I have chronic pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, ddd, osteoarthritis throughout my body. I’m also on hydrocodone 3/day and Baclofen 3/day. I’m on loads more medication but that’s about it for pain.

@Butterfly9937 since doctors seem to not want to prescribe hydrocodone so easily, did you request it or did they make you try different meds until they find one that you can tolerate?

        • Butterfly9937

          578d

@Dolls I’ve also endured several tests and surgeries to determine that I still need this level of medication. I also have a spinal cord stimulator in my back. It runs mostly all day to combat the pain in my back.

@Dolls I was placed on it right away at the pain clinic. Prior to that I was on Lyrica, diclofenac, and Cymbalta when I went to the pain clinic from my rheumatologist. He ran so many tests. My inflammation was so high and my pain level was always above ten. I went in on a Walker and a cane before to both doctors. The pain doctor took me off of diclofenac immediately due to possible liver damage. He placed me on hydrocodone and a muscle relaxer.

@Butterfly9937 Wow, that's a lot. I have another appointment and hopefully she'll change it since it's not helping much. I'm avoiding any of the addictive drugs or any that cause drowsiness cuz I'm too busy and have to drive a lot.

        • Butterfly9937

          579d

@Raylin believe it or not, I’m used to it it by now. I don’t have to take the pain medicine 3/day. I Won’t take them or muscle relaxers if I’m driving to avoid Any possibility of falling asleep. I take hydrocodone 10-325 since 2014. I have been without them for two weeks before this last refill because I was in the hospital and missed my appointment. Addiction occurs in the behavior and the manner in which you choose to abuse the drug. I didn’t have any type of withdrawal or anything because I don’t take them every 8 hours. I take them as needed every 8 hours if that makes sense. Do whatever works best for you. I hope 🤞🏽 by now you’ve found something to relieve your pain. I feel like we’re all guinea pig to these doctors sometimes. Try this try that!!! They don’t really know. Advocate for yourself!!!! Tell them what’s working and what’s not working! Best wishes to you on your journey!!

@Raylin I haven't been released to drive but the gabapentin never did anything for my pain when I was on it either. And the actual pain meds always made me sick... what's your pain from is there something they do to address it or correct it so it it's reduced? My pain was intense and constant but there wasn't anything they could do really but then after the seizures started (they were totally unrelated unless the gabapentin was the cause maybe) the seizure meds made EVERYTHING taste so bad I gagged all the time! Like I couldn't even drink soda! So l lost 100 pounds super fast not because I was trying and surprisingly and thankfully it really helped with the nerve damage area and pain in my back and it's pretty manageable now with over the counter meds... and I had a friend have surgery on his sciatic nerve to eliminate his need for hard core pain meds.
