I’m 19 yrs old and I have moderate to severe scoliosis. 37 degree thoracic dextroscoliosis / throracolumbar levoscoliosis as well. I’ve had chronic pain for 5 years. I’ve tried a multitude of treatment options including bracing, chiropractic, massage therapy, yoga, tizanidine, etc. My doctor claims my curve isn’t severe enough for surgery. However, the pain caused by my scoliosis is constant and my X-rays are always confusing. My doctor only listens to my X-rays instead of listening to my concerns for my increase in symptoms and worsening pain. I have to schedule my yearly appointment with that same doctor. But everytime I go he always says there’s nothing he can do.
What should I do at this point? Has anyone else had severe pain but not severe enough of a curve to qualify for surgery?
I have curvature of the spine and am in water physical therapy (again).
Yesterday the patient who was finishing water therapy talked about having surgery to correct it. I don't know if I would be a candidate for surgery or not. I need to talk to my doctor about that.
I know only too well the pain and crippling effect this has caused me.
I would find a new doctor if I were you. I feel that my doctor works for me.
You are very close to qualifying for surgery because the minimum is 40 but 40 to 50(where I am) is a gray area and it has to be progressing, which sounds like it is not in your case, but correct me if I’m wrong on that, I get the pain tho, and pt didn’t really help, I have to wait until January to see if it’s progressing, but they don’t want to risk it if it’s not “bad” enough, which sucks cuz it’s excruciating so I get where you’re coming from
I have my next check-up and x-ray at the end of June. From the condition of my symptoms, I would say my curve has worsened but only X-rays will prove my theory correct. At this point, I’m hoping to get a second opinion cause my quality of life is being affected.
