to get rid of social anxiety, you're supposed to start with simple exposure therapy, like asking a stranger for the time. but i can't even do that. i know nothing bad will happen, but it's like there's a force holding me back. how do i work on social anxiety if i can't do the first step?

I also struggle a lot with social anxiety and although it's not an easy answer, the way to help is exposure. Instead of step 1, break it down into smaller parts and start with step 0.25 you just have to find something to start with, even if it's just the tiniest thing. What helped me start being able to do small exposures was getting on a med for social anxiety. It's not doe everyone one but For me that is Prozac. It helped my anxiety enough that I wasn't nauseous just from seeing ppl at the store. You gotta start somewhere. Anywhere. Anything little thing helps. Every exposure is a step in the right direction. Good luck, I hope things get better for you!

It can be really hard. My first step was going to the store by myself. I had a really hard time doing that but after awhile it got easier and I can go shopping on my own now. One thing is that I had to learn to ask myself questions of why I feel the way I do (why am I anxious?) and then after figuring out the answer ask myself another question and answer it until I get to the root of why I’m feeling that way and then tell myself I don’t really care what people think while I’m shopping. And try hard to really mean that. And after awhile it worked! I hope you can also get less socially anxious! I’m Currently working on the Same 💕
