Is it even worth trying to get an autism diagnosis?

my autism diagnosis has explained a ton of stuff for me. it helped my family understand me and it makes me feel less alone. it also helps people understand me more in my personal life. plus, you’re able to say your diagnosed when faced with push back on accommodations. if i didn’t have my piece of paper promising i was autistic, my high school would have never given me the accommodations i needed. it opens doors to a better life. i’m sorry that you haven’t been able to get a diagnosis, but working with a therapist who is knowledgeable in autism helps. i will say i was diagnosed in 2014 so the criteria might be different now, but my therapist diagnosed me after i took a few tests. they are usually good indicators, i know this as i have had my boyfriend who is not autistic take similar diagnostic tests for fun and he’s scored vastly lower than me

Validation, access to accommodations, access to treatment... I can keep going. Just a heads up though, this post seems extremely ableist. A lot of people will target adults trying to get an autism diagnosis by using these arguments. I understand that that's not what you're trying to do here, but it does come across that way.
