I just got the letter that no one likes to get. I got denied from the social security disability people. I kind of expected that because I can still see sort of and I can still walk with assistance. I have also been told numerous times that the first time I apply I will be denied. I thought about reapplying, but now I'm just like maybe I should get a job. I mainly suffer from really bad cognitive issues. I used to be a teacher, but I just think it would be a huge disservice to the kids if I tried to be a teacher again. Maybe I can just stock shelves or do something where I don't have to think too much. Has anyone been in my position? What did you do?

I reapplied for 5 years and then finally got a lawyer that dealt with Social Security issues. I had to go before a judge but, I won my case and he went back to the first time I applied for back pay.

It took me 3 yrs, 2 appeals and a disability lawyer to finally get approved

I’m curious- did you have a lawyer to help you with the process? Don’t get discouraged- most people are turned down the first time, even the second. I know people who were turned down twice and got a lawyer and were approved immediately! You have a much better chance with a lawyer- and the money they get is worth not having to wait another year or two with no income!

@DeeVee that's crazy getting turned down so much. I hired my lawyer to appeal the first denial I received. He seems pretty optimistic, so we will see.

Hey there! I have not been in your position and won’t be of any help in providing advice. However I hope whatever is to come is nothing but blessings. You got this my friend and we are here if you need someone to talk to. Keep your head up 💜

I went ahead and hired a lawyer to appeal the case. He is not free, but he is kind of like yours. If I win I just give him a part of my first paycheck and then I keep the rest, but if I lose I don't pay him anything. Thanks for your advice and wish me luck!

I was denied the first time I applied. I worked at a preschool/daycare and physically had a hard time keeping up. After my denial I was recommended to get a lawyer and I did. I won my case

@skbuzz 👍 I think I might go that route too. Did you reapply with a lawyer or appeal the denial with a lawyer?

@jdog54321 I believe I called a lawyer and did what he recommended (I think appeal) his payment was a portion of my retro check.
