I feel like the person I want to become and the life I want to live is completely unattainable because of my health. It truly feels like every time a good thing happens to me, my health takes it away. Who even am I now? I feel like the shell of a person I used to be
You are heard; it can be so disappointing when plans you had don’t work out. I’m working through this right now, finding myself after my original life plan didn’t turn out to happen as quickly as I thought. I went to school to be a therapist, but I’m finding the field is not very friendly to disabled employees. I know I won’t be able to work long hours, or drive to clients, but I have come to terms with that being my needs.
It is definitely important to feel what you need to, grieve the loss of the life you expected. But you can rest assured knowing that you will be able to do something that is fulfilling to you. It sucks that it may not be what you thought it would be, but you have value and skills you can share!
I don’t know if it would help, but if you can take a little time to explore hobbies and interests, both new and old, you might find more comfort in who you are. Be kind and give yourself grace, and recognize your strengths! Allow yourself to make mistakes. Remember, you are human, and good or bad, you deserve to reach goals. When you’re feeling more up for it, maybe you can even find a coach or accountability partner to work with towards specific goals!
