When was the first time you had a manic/depressive episode? Did bipolar start with mania or depression for you? Mine started with mania at 10 years old, I thought I was on top of the world, despite having to dealing with monthly menstruations from an early age and no one to relate to.

mine actually started at 9 but I didn’t start menstruating monthly till I was 10. Does that makes sense?

I would say that my first manic episode was when I was 13. I wasn't actually diagnosed until after I had my first child when I was almost 20. Now I can look back on my mental health issues and see the patterns. 20 plus years ago it was still called manic depression and it was very highly misunderstood. Getting my first antidepressants through me into terrible manic swings. That was before they found out that an antidepressant alone without a mood stabilizer is a bad idea.

I’ve never been on meds. My therapists were never helpful. None of them taught be breathing techniques or coping strategies for my mental illnesses. I’m afraid the medication won’t even help me or that it might make it worse since I have so many conditions.

that's the risk dealing with psychiatric meds, you sign up for weighing the positive effects against the negative. You have to try the meds to see their result. Sometimes it doesn't feel worth it if the side effects are heavily negative. When a med works and helps bring stability to your life, it can bring a calmness and clarity and opens things up for you. In the end it's got to be your choice.
