What is fibromyalgia and what causes it? My regular Dr said I had it but didn't explain what it is or really anything bout it.

My dr said fibro has combined factors, like genetics and environmental. I believe that makes sense because my mom suffers from fibro as well, and that my disease erupted after a stressful time in my life

There are also other conditions like endometriosis and interstitial cystitis that are common with fibromyalgia. So is chronic fatigue syndrome.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition. It is not autoimmune. The immune system is not affected. Sometimes fibromyalgia exists alongside an autoimmune condition. Fibromyalgia is the result of an overactive nervous system. It is characterized by a combination of fatigue and whole body pain. I’m sorry your doctor didn’t give you more information. I read several books about it when I was diagnosed in 2014. I have learned almost nothing from the doctors I’ve had. There is a book “The fatigue and fibromyalgia solution” by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, one of the few doctors who cares about fibromyalgia. I have gabapentin to take when I need it. I don’t take it very much because I don’t like the side effects. A small dose of flexeril is what Dr. Teitelbaum recommends. #fibromyalgia on Instagram should yield some helpful results.

My Dr did me the same way. Research will be your best friend. I found a book on Amazon called Fibromyalgia for Dummies and it became my best friend.

It's an autoimmune disease that causes chronic pain all over, all of the time. There are also secondary issues that you may or may not develop over time. I suggest you do your research, keep a pain journal, and just learn to do what you can when you can.
