Hello! i’m new to alike and was just wondering if anyone has had any good experiences taking lamotrigine over time. i’ve been taking it for two months and don’t particularly feel any different in any way. but i also don’t know what i’d be expecting if i were to feel differently.

hi! it looks to me like you’re taking it for mood disorders here, I take it for epilepsy, but i do have anxiety and depression. personally I don’t really notice any difference in my behavior on it, and if i do, it’s relatively small things. I understand feeling like it’s a placebo because, trust me, but I think recognizing that medicine can help without side effects is very important! it’s a “silent” medicine for me:)

I was on Cymbalta first and wasn’t feeling my best with just Cymbalta so my doctor added lamotrigine and now I feel more balanced. So you may need another med added to the lamotrigine to make you feel significantly better.
Yes!!!!! It really made a huge difference when I first started taking it and got on the right dose (150 for me) I still take it ~5 years later. Not sure how much it does for me anymore but it’s one of the only ones without shitty side effects so I love it
i actually feel more like myself and better when i am not on it. i won’t have any major lows while on the medication, but it makes me feel less bubbly and more depressed. i was also dealing with a lot of loss recently so rather then having thoughts like “i should just take a walk. it’s ok to not be doing something all the time” to “i am going to forget about this person and not be able to remember their voice” is a big switch. the medication quiets me down and also makes me feel like i’m on auto pilot and that everyone can tell that i’m acting weird or walking funny or somthing. makes me feel like everyone is watching me and thinks i’m not right
i have a mood disorder and have like major crying spells and depressive episodes, so i got prescribed to “prevent episodes on the future” and kinda “mellow me out” i’m very 1 to 100 and a very loud love or hate person who is really emotional and will be very vocal about my emotions. i was told i have a mood disorder but i didn’t have enough or the symptoms to be diagnosed as bipolar.

So interesting you relate! I’ve stayed on it bc I def notice I feel different if I forget to take it. I prefer how I feel with it, but again the dose is so low and I still actively struggle with the OCD and depression. Maybe it means I need more but it may not necessarily mean that. I should probably emphasize that more with my Psychiatrist bc Ive told her some of this lol
i’ve been on it for years and it definitely helps with my depression and ocd, i’m pretty sure it took about a month for it to start working for me, but I would just talk to your care provider to see what they recommend ❤️

I would say it’s more for Bi-Polar than regular depression cause it balances the mood shifts. From personal experience it was not for me for regular depression
no same!!! i thought it might be a placebo since i don’t feel any different, but i also figured it might not be since there are so many warnings and possible side effects you could experience. i figured that if it was a placebo it wouldn’t have as much caution with taking it. so i’m not sure if i should just up my dose as well or ask if i should take something else

I am on the lowest dose and noticed some improvement but I still struggle and wonder if going up would help. Bc I’m on the lowest dose I sometimes wonder if it could be placebo.
It depends on your dose. My fiancé just started it and had been titrating his dose up and his anxiety has significantly reduced. It also could not be the right medication for you. Took about 6 months to find the right cocktail of meds for myself.
sorry that’s a lot all at once. but i just haven’t felt strongly in anyway and it hasn’t mellowed me out or anything either. i just feel more spaced out and disconnected from reality if anything. i’ll stare blankly in the mirror for 30 mins and upset myself by overthinking things. and i don’t think i’ve felt so like. flat. or boring in a bit. idk. i feel like the :| emoji most of the time rather then any extreme like before
i started taking it and got properly diagnosed after having an explosive breakup of a long term relationship. so i don’t really know what to expect from the medication. i still have all the problems i did before but feel slightly better. like i can go to work and talk to people (i work in retail on the floor so i talk a lot) but idk. i cant tell if medication is helping me feel better at all or if i’m slowly just getting over things and cooling off from how tense it all was. either way it’s only been a few months since everything so i am much better then when it all happened, but i think that’s more so from having time then because of any medication
I’ve actually experienced more bad then good on it. Since you mentioned it. My suicidal thoughts got worse as well as I was super dizzy all the time.
ok yeah that sounds like a plan! just wasn’t sure if you’d feel a certain way or if it would effect me in any negative or bad ways. I usually just take a lot of the different types of “calming” animo acid pills in pharmacies.so this is my first time being on medication for mental health reasons.
Hey, I’ve been on lamotrigine for a few years. I haven’t seen any difference on it and I’m on the max dose. I would talk to whoever prescribed it and express your concerns and hopefully they can discuss some more helpful options. ❤️
