The only person who knows and accepts it is my step-mom and probably my dad, I don't talk about it with my dad but he listen to me and my step mom talk about it and he's very accepting. My mom doesn't know and my bf refuses to accept

I understand, I just joined like 10 mins ago and this is the 2nd comment Ive seen! My mom riddicules me saying, "if you can stay at school in the cafeteria you dont have social anxiety, you just shy" and i dont have a real diagnosis because my mom wont take me to get it checked out.

I've gone to a concert by myself before too and mine is really bad. I guess it's bc you're in like a dark room and nobody is paying attention to you bc everyone's eyes are on the stage and you don't have to speak to anyone and like there's so many people that it's like there's no way everyone's focus can just be on you. Also my dad dosent really believe me either and we've had plenty of arguments about it so I started recording pretty much all my anxiety attacks in a notebook. I write down the time, date, what happened to set it off, how bad it was and the symptoms of it. I've been working on it for a long time and I plan to show it to him soon. Maybe you can try something like that if this is really that important to you or you feel comfortable

He's ignorant. Not your job to try and convince anyone of what's real and what isn't. Especially if they're not going to be on your side. Not worth your energy. There will be a select few really special people that can understand you deeply. And thats true without or without anxiety.

I've had similar problems where it seemed like some people in my family didn't understand my anxiety, but overtime those closest to me (like my parents) started to understand that my anxiety was real. Therapy def played a role in that!

@CozyCottage i have to do something to prove my social anxiety :( no one believes i have it.. even tho my parents had me on IEP plans where i wouldn’t have to present, or be called out in class all throughout middle and high school.. they just don’t get it
