hey i randomly started having tics in January of 2021. the winter after I turned 18. I mostly have motor tics but I think Ive had a few vocal tics too. Its been a year and a half since they've started and I have a few dozen tics. I was wondering how everyone's family life has been affected by tics? also should I speak to my neurologist about tourettes?

In terms of family life, I found I had a few social/family issues when I tics began (around 2 and a half years ago), but over time my family was okay with adjusting for the most part after getting used to them and acknowledging that they're involuntary. I have had a couple issues with certain family members who will stare or comment about them, which usually makes them worse on top of just generally being kind of mean. But, overall, my family and close friends have been respectful. I've generally had more issues with peers, classmates, and coworkers when it comes to changes socially. I'm at a similar point to you at the moment: I have over 15 different tics which are primarily motor with a few vocal/a combination of both, and they've been going on since I was about 16. Personally, I think that it can't hurt to discuss your specific symptoms with your doctor and ask if it could be tourettes.
