Everyone says I look “too happy” to be depressed. And my family constantly says I have a good life and nothing to be depressed about. I just can’t seem to be able to explain it to them and am so sick of feeling so alone.

If you're like me, you "look happy" to others because you've learned to use a "social mask". I don't remember where I heard that, but it makes sense. We learn to fake happiness around others so we don't have to explain ourselves. I'm also dealing with depression. I first noticed it when I hit puberty. I'm medicated now and that helps considerably. I also deal with situational depression. (My husband has late stage dementia and lives in a care home.) Anyway, you're not alone. You can't help how your brain is wired.

I feel that. I'm sorry you don't have the support of your family. If you need to talk I'm here.

I always tell everyone that it's a chemical malfunction in my brain. Sometimes I can be "fixed" by medications but not all the time. They help in the day to day but not the extremes.

For me, my depression is genetic and can get triggered by lack of sleep. Just ask yourself if you have any family members who are the same if not check your sleep schedule to see if you're getting enough sleep. But it could literally be a number of things. Just hang in there ok.
