I have depression and low motivation. Some days are so hard I feel completely drained and useless. How do you keep from just laying down and refusing to do anything? Most people think I am the happiest person ever, and so they find it hard to believe I am suffering. No one believes I need help, so I feel helpless.

I also struggle with motivation so I try to “link” activities together. For example, when you get up to go to the bathroom, then do a few things you need to do before you sit back down. Sometimes I’ll just slowly walk around the house and think about anything I need to do before I sit down again, because I know I’ll not want to get up again!

I definitely know how it feels to walk into the doctors office and feel completely unheard because I’ve become so accustomed to masking that it’s hard for anyone to believe I’d have extreme mood swings, irritability, or any mental health problems. It helps me to understand exactly what my symptoms are and why I’m experiencing them, so I can approach the topic logically instead of emotionally, and I find people understand a lot more and are more prone to believe me when I take this approach.

Do you take meds? They really do help. They don’t fix things but make you less miserable
