I used to have five VP shunts. Recently found out some of them are not working for me anymore. So now I only have two. So the thing I noticed is when I move too fast I get a headache and when I have a completely flat. I have not noticed getting them from sleeping tho

I don't know if I'd call it a headache but when I take naps on the couch my shunt hurts then it goes away when I wake up from them.

YES!! Changes in temperature and barometric pressure severely affect my pain level AND my headaches. I had a VP shunt until I was 26, then my surgeon did a 3rd ventriculostomy, and I was able to have the shunt removed. My ventricles collapsed onto themselves so my surgeon put in a intraventricular Stent so it would keep the ventricles open. Years went by and I developed a large cyst in the middle of my brain, and I was unable to keep my balance, and had a horrific headache all the time. The ventriculostomy was redone, but I had 2 significant brain bleeds one after the other 2 weeks apart. When It was all redone, 2 weeks later I had a trapped ventricle, and that was when I had a small shunt placed from the trapped ventricle to the ventriculostomy. I got out of the hospital 1 week before my 30th birthday. It's been over 18 years since I have had a brain surgery. I have had periods of time where I had to be on anti-seizure medication, but it apparently resolved and I could stop taking those meds. I pretty much have a headache 24/7 now. I can tolerate it most days, but when the weather or temperature changes, I have whopping headaches and migraines. My headache pain level stays at about a 4-5 continuously, and occasionally it will jump up to a 7-8. I know what a 10 feels like, and I haven't had that in near 19 years.

@NanN thank you for replying.. i dont even have words to say after reading your post.. your doing such an amazing job enduring that pain and living everyday. I really hope one day you are pain free.

@Pinknihari ~ Thank you. I have been richly blessed. Pain free for me will have to wait until after I'm gone I'm afraid. It's been a lifetime of this kind of thing. If a person can ever "get used to"constant pain, then I guess I can say I'm used to it.

I haven't when I sleep in, but I get headaches for several reasons. When the weather shifts especially.

✋ yes all the time. If I sleep more than 10 hours, I will likely have a bad day.
