this is random lmao but has anyone else ever done ketamine and had a literally psychotic episode that lasted weeks? i took it recreationally a few times to help me introspect with ptsd but overdid it accidentally and was in a fear filled full on psychotic anxiety ptsd looping episode for almost a month
it’s most definitely not for everyone and the benefits of doing it in a controlled environment with a professional is that they can give you sedatives along with the ketamine to combat any super intense trips
I’m not sure about the sedative part… I only have my experience and medical knowledge to go off of, but ketamine is traditionally used as an anesthetic, it blocks NMDA receptors. With my experience there was no mention of or administration of sedative, as at the dose they give it, it can make you a bit sleepy. I was told there was a very small chance I may hallucinate, but that hasn’t happened. The only additional medication I’ve received is Zofran because after one infusion I was nauseous. I know it can be administered different ways, so maybe sedatives are given then, but with my knowledge I don’t think sedatives are typically used in conjunction with ketamine treatments. Ativan can actually interfere with the treatments.
So I’ve been doing ketamine infusions under medical supervision. I would not recommend doing it recreationally as that can be dangerous and I’m sure it could cause issues like that. I would definitely talk to a professional and see what can help you vs. self treating an issue.
Any psychedelic your gonna do is going to interact with whatever mental health struggles you are already dealing with. That is why psychedelics are both great and terrible for mental health. I would agree with others to do psychedelics with either an expert lay person or a certified psychedelic psychotherapist. I've never had a psychotic episode on ketamine, but I've had two psychotic episode from acid and mushrooms. I had them because I had unresolved trauma to deal with and psychedelics got everything out in super fast mode. Felt like I did 10 years of therapy in 10 hours. It was probably a good thing in the end, your psychotic episode, but it probably did not seem good at the time.
it definitely felt like that however i still feel very very very mentally fragile. this was back in like sept-october and i can be triggered back into it pretty easily and it turns into a massive panic episode which i haven’t dealt with to this extent in years
