Has anyone had any experience with sleep attacks (microsleeps) while driving? I’ve had a handful of scares and it’s terrifying. When I feel overly drowsy I try to pull over if I’m able.

@sapphic no problem! I recommend a cold carbonated drink, like a soda. If it's just water, it doesn't give me enough stimulation to be able to stay awake. Temperature difference and a different texture and flavor gives my brain something to focus on

If I go on a car ride that's longer than about 10 or 15 minutes, I pass out. It doesn't matter if I'm driving or a passenger. I found out that having a drink or snack when I'm driving will keep me awake. I find that a drink is more effective, but both should work in theory
@Entropyluna I’m the same way!! Sitting or driving is exhausting to me..tysm for your reply!!
Happens to me anytime I try to make a drive longer than 20 minutes. Was trying to cope by pulling over to the side of the road but I'll admit I sometimes pushed myself thinking I could "shake myself out of it". About 3 weeks ago I fell asleep at the wheel on the highway going 70 and slammed my car into the back of a semi, asleep at the wheel. Sitting motionless in the car seat just turns my brain onto sleep mode, I guess. I dont want to stop driving because that would pretty much give up my ability to work and live normally but it's scary and I would encourage you to ride with friends, carpool, etc. I get rides with friends when I can just so im behind the wheel as little as possible.
@out_of_orexin oh goodness I hope you’re okay now!! That must have been terrifying. Thank u so much for your input!!

I experienced microsleeps but not during driving. Do you get the treatment you need?
@Zoro no I don’t I’ve still been going under eval for a diagnosis bc I know these microsleeps aren’t normal
