So I just got off the phone with my doctor, I’ve gotta decide between a full hysterectomy with ovary removal, orilissa or lupron. I know lupron and orilissa are only temporary but I don’t know if I want to go through that then the hysterectomy or just go straight to the hysterectomy. I know it’s not a cure but it will likely reduce a lot of pain…well that’s the hope anyways. Any thoughts, feedback?

Hiii! I’m undergoing a laparoscopy in a monthish and my gyno is in the “burn it” camp for endometriosis lesions. She says that cutting it out can make it scar back worse? But my mom did lupron and it made her sick but helped with pain for awhile but she couldn’t do the side effects (endometriosis diagnosis as well)
Hi helix, I was never treated with these medications nor did I undergo surgery but I know that there are pros and cons to having a hysterectomy. My biggest fear is that pain usually comes back… but some women do experience relief for several years.. sending you a big hug and good luck with whatever you choose!
Thanks Mars! I’m leaning towards no on both drugs and still on the fence on the hysterectomy with oophrectomy. I have PMDD and PCOS so a hystero may help those also. I’m just so frozen in place. I’m a thyroid cancer survivor and that medical/surgical trauma is still wrecking havoc on my brain 10 years later. I’ve looked on Nancy’s nook but there’s no one that’s in my insurance network or even within 3 hours of me. My gyn said she’d do excision along with the hystero but it’s just a lot to think about.
Unless your doctor is attempting to treat Adenomyosis, rather than Endometriosis, I would advise that you do neither and try to find an excision specialist (Nancy Nook of Facebook is the best place to look). The lack of information that a lot of doctors work with makes me sad, but a hysterectomy doesn’t do nearly as much for you, and I myself have just refused Orlissa and Lupron after researching side effects/how they work and talking to some people who have been on them. Of course I don’t know your situation, and it’s your choice. I personally would say no to both and have an excision surgery instead though, it’s the closest we have to a cure. I wish you the best though, and I hope that whatever you do brings you some relief <3
