my meds keep making me sick and idk what to do. so when i was around 10 or 11 i was but on abilify and buspar and i was fine with them for years and at 13 i was put on lexapro. i’ve been taking my meds for years and i honestly have a really hard time keeping up with them when i’m severely depressed. my sister just died in september and i have adjustment disorder so i’m still extremely depressed and whenever i try taking my medications, i throw up. i will either get sick for 1 day or 3 days or 5 days. my gastroenterologist thinks i have CHS but i can go months without throwing up and i smoke atleast 4 times a day. my psychiatrist is actually the one who kind of made me realize that it could be my meds, but she won’t lower them because i’m an idiot and i lied and said i’ve been taking the consistently. this is my 3rd day being sick after taking my meds. i don’t know if i should just completely stop, get my meds changed, or if i just beg my psychiatrist to lower them. PLS HELP‼️‼️ i get such bad pains from the sickness i constantly think i’m having a heart attack. ANY ADVICE HELPS‼️‼️

@urdadsb0ng good! I’m glad you're doing that, withdrawal is yucky! Good luck I hope you find something that works for you.

I had to quit buspirone, kept making me feel nauseous, just stuck with sertraline for ocd.

It definitely could be CHS. Or your meds. But I agree with the other person, 100% honesty with your psychiatrist is very important. Also for them to know that you smoke. I was also a user of substances and was honest with mine and she changed my meds due to how they could be reacting with the other drugs/alcohol/including the herb. Similar to how if you're smoking cigarettes/nicotine and have a schizophrenic spectrum disorder or just take them you will have to adjust your antipsychotics accordingly because of the reactions of them together. I am no doctor of course lol. This is just what I know from being mentally ill and taking meds while also working in a residential mental health facility with med management being a priority. But I wouldn't just stop the Lexapro cold turkey, since you've been on it a long time, it will make you hella sick pretty quickly and make things even worse. Antidepressant withdrawal is shitty and hard. And could possibly take 6-8 weeks to taper off of it under a psychiatrist's care to avoid those withdrawal effects. Before you make any changes to your Lexapro, I highly recommend you talk to your psychiatrist first. Even if they don't necessarily support it, they still will want you to be safe doing it so should be able to give you the appropriate advice. Bc if you think you're sick now, it can be so much worse very quickly. Again, definitely not a doctor! This is just speaking from my personal and personal professional (clients I’ve worked with) experience. Take from this what you want, just please please please be careful! I hope you can talk to your psych and they can help you taper off so that you can figure out what is making you so sick! And I hope you feel better 🙂 good luck!

@E_belli thank you so much!! i will definitely talk to her, and i’m probably just gonna do half a pill when i take them so that i don’t end up withdrawling, i’m gonna try to get put on new meds as well since these aren’t really helping me anymore

Honesty is the best policy when it comes to medication doses, if you think it would help the sickness try only taking half a pill bc some medicines it's not a good idea to go cold turkey

I would tell your psychiatrist you haven't been taking them. I know it's scary to be 100% honest but when it's affecting you like it is it's going to benefit you. This is the psychiatrists job to figure out the best medications and what levels you need and what you don't. It will be ok I promise I know it's scary because I've gone through it too. If you need to talk you can dm me!

@Kelso9344 thank u so much for the advice. i only speak with her every 3 months and i talked to her around 2 weeks ago so i may just stop taking them until she calls again because i can’t keep doing this lol

@urdadsb0ng you're welcome! I don't blame you it's miserable when your meds are off
