Tw suicide We lost a system friend and have split three times this past week because we feel so guilty for leaving and possibly causing them to relapse and or commit suicide. We had been so close to each other for months but the relationship was always codependent, toxic, and at some points abusive. We felt trapped and they were okay with ending the relationship, but later that week they messaged us and said they needed us. We had an ounce of self worth for just a second and said no, and spilled our guts about how we felt trapped in the relationship and that we get like a mother and that it was one sided care because we just couldn’t open up because when we did we only made them relapse. They said “if that’s how you really feel than sorry for bothering you” more of in a guilting way, and that was the last thing they said to us. We tried to tell that they would find somebody better but they never responded to showed that they read the message. We’re scared that we made them commit suicide because they attempt a lot, but we had no other choice than to leave. We were going to die if we stayed with them and we were constantly panicked and everything was worse. I’m so scared I feel so guilty. I don’t want to be the reason someone died.

first of all, you guys deserve a big round of applause. leaving someone who is toxic is super hard and stressful. second of all, a lot of toxic people when their relationships are ending, tend to guilt trip by pulling the "im going to hurt/kill myself" trick. you guys are not responsible for others actions and i know in the moment it feels that way, but you guys have nothing to feel ashamed about. we are so so proud of you guys for leaving them and we are sending out so much love to y'all.
