Tips for Learning ASL Without HoH/Deaf Friends?

Also! I forgot to add this 🥲 The sentence structure that ASL uses is called topicalisation. if you google it, you’ll find stuff on it. I can tell you more about topicalisation later if you want, but i cannot access my laptop to check my notes at this time. 😅

Start with the alphabet, for sure. Once you have memorised and know the alphabet by heart, then go onto other stuff. Another important thing to know is the parameters for ASL: Hand shape, so like whether you’re using an S or a B to do a sign. Movement, so like how are you moving your hand(s) for the don, or if you’re moving them at all. Palm Orientation, so which direction is your palm facing when you’re doing the sign. (inwards, outwards, up, down, left, right, stuff like that.) Location, so like where in the space of your body is the sign done at.
