This is my first holiday season with gastroparesis. It’s so hard to have everything celebratory surrounding food/eating. Also my gp and my other conditions are all out of control right now, and everyone will be expecting me to say that I’m doing better, but I’m not. I feel like I’m bringing everyone down with my illnesses, so I hide them as much as I can (hard), but that only makes me feel so isolated and alone. Anyone feel the same? Would love to connect with people to feel a bit less alone

Sorry, I try to just get through the holidays as fast as I can for this reason.

Bringing your own food is a fantastic tip! I do it whenever I’m in a flare up, and the people worth keeping around will never mind. I totally get you- I’ve been struggling to keep up with what my family expects of me this holiday season, and I’ve been living with this almost my entire life and haven’t yet been able to beat those isolating feelings. You are not alone!

It's hard to not be doing well when people want us to be 🤗 I have the same struggle right now, it's also my first GP year. I bring my own food to events so I have something to eat (since I have to have small frequent meals anyway), but it's a bummer to be drinking BOOST next to brownies and lasagna :( I'm honest but brief (my big thing now is GP so I say, "stomach still broken!" and change the subject to something positive) and I avoid people who are going to be weird about it. You don't have to pretend to be healthier than you are to protect the feelings of others. It's super frustrating and you're definitely not alone in this. Best wishes for a minimally-painful holiday 🤗

I get the feeling isolated and alone feeling because even though it’s been years, my family still doesn’t truly understand my condition and are constantly belittling me. What sometimes helps is finding activities that don’t revolve around food like watching holiday movies or playing games.

I'm estranged from my family and my in-laws live out across half the country. So it's just me and my husband and our animals. So I definitely feel alone but I'm finding a lot of people feel the same way around this time so it makes it not so bad in a way
