hey. So I've been clean for about a year and a half. but I still get the urges. I still find myself reaching for the knife when I'm low. thankfully I've been able to stop myself each time. but I'm scared that this is something I will have to live with my whole life. will I always have these ideations and urges?

One app that some of my friends and I found helpful was called calm harm. It uses CBT.
@Ash.G omg yeah I have something very similar š¤
@Rain13 do you find it helpful? I still pull my hair out and pick my scalp when I am really anxious or panicky. However, I noticed that I can stop myself sooner than I used to more often than not.

One of the replies suggests that sometimes our brains revert back to a habit after a long time. Minor things that make one upset can sometimes give the urge to relapse. Some people do it unconsciously because it was a habit for a long time or people who did it after being clean for awhile for the comfort of the rhythm. Our brains are mysteries and hard to understand, especially with mental health in play. It's also suggested to find a group of people who are experienced with or experiencing this kind of thing, having a consistent support group who you know is not judging you but still wants you to be your best and help you be accountable to yourself is a really great tool for getting through this time.
