I recently have been struggling with executive dysfunction and it severely impacts my life in school and work. I have tried everything and have been trying to get meds. Any advice on how to get past that start line and actually finish?

I struggle with that too. I’m certainly no expert and I’m far from perfect, but one of the things that helps me get things done is “delayed gratification.” Like a reward for finishing basically. For example, putting away clean laundry is my arch nemesis. Something I try to do to motivate myself to actually finish it is letting myself do something fun or special once it’s done. Like if I’m craving just down time of doing nothing and not having the looming feeling of procrastination, I’ll tell myself that once all my laundry is put away I can lay down for an uninterrupted “x” amount of time. Therefore, knowing I got something done, I can actually let my brain relax without having guilt or anxiety about not having got it done. It doesn’t ALWAYS work, but it can be helpful. Hope that might help you!

Ooo! I struggled with this for SO long until I caved, finally cleaned out my closet, and went out to target. I brought myself the most adorable clothing on the planet. Cute socks, Cute t-shirts, comfy pants, cute boxers, etc. I focused on buying things I KNEW I would enjoy wearing or could find some little fun aspect of! That helped me gain the motivation to actually do my laundry and fold it/hang it up. People think themed day-of-the-week socks are stupid, but you know what I say? Monday is Bug day, meaning my Bug socks and my Frog shirt (frog shirt because frogs eat bugs) HAVE to be cleaned or else they won’t match the theme. I do this all week long and it has worked wonders. Maybe it’s just me, but if it works, it works!
