why is it that basic life tasks were once easy mindless tasks, but now every little thing feels like a marathon! Life is so confusing for me...

Just keep reminding yourself “I just suffered a traumatic brain injury, of course I’m going to be worn out.” This is a HUGE transition; not just physically but mentally. But more importantly you will get through it. Today, is a good day for me. Which can be few and far between at the start. I recommend dry shampoo, getting comfortable with baby wipe showers if you don’t have the energy for a “real” shower. If it’s a good day do some meal prep ( dump and go frozen slow cooker meals) things that will set you up for success on the really bad days, so you don’t have to do anything extra. It does get better. It does. DM if you want. I’m 3 years in, I’m still struggling but I’m learning everyday.

Try turkey tail mushroom and Lions Mane mushroom supplements. The effects gradually build over time . But they have worked miracles in my TBI recovery. Not simply only a TBI, but rather a Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI), which is the most sever of TBI’s other than a penetrating brain injury.

It is painfully slow. Fatigue is so frustrating. It’s been two years since my accident and everyday I keep pushing myself to heal but some days I need extra rest.

@LindsayLee I remember my doctor comforting me by telling me that when I HAVE TO SLEEP, it's at that time that my brain is resting and healing itself.

Sadly, that the nature of the beast...which is brain injury. Be patient and keep working retrain your brain. That's all that we can do.
