I was psyched to finally find a suitable PCP to help me start hormone therapy but during my check-up she asked me about my mental health history and afterwards said that I may have bipolar disorder and I've been a mess ever since. Dealing with clinical depression and PTSD for most of my life has already been very hard so adding bipolar to the mix is such a hard pill to swallow. At first I disagreed with the diagnoses due to the fact that I have been screened for bipolar disorder when I was younger and my results were always negative but I have been growing more aware of certain emotional periods of mine that might have been mania this entire time without me knowing. What topped it all of was screening myself recently to see if it could possibly be true and I scored 14/18 for bipolar... I'm crushed. I know nothing about this disorder nor know anyone with it so I don't have a frame of reference. It's all very scary and would like some reassurance that it's not as bad as I keep making it out to be.

I have PTSD and was diagnosed with major depressive disorder before that was changed to Bipolar 2, I also have been on hormone therapy for 6 years. It's hard and my bipolar is the hardest part to handle for sure but it's manageable with medicine, and if you do really have it, finding the source of the problem is the first step to things getting better

Folks on bipolar meds do very well. Take your meds and have a good psychiatrist that you like seeing. It will help pull you through.

My partner has bipolar! And it can be really scary, but I promise it's manageable and you'll be okay.

I can say that it’s not necessarily as bad as you may feel it is. Like a lot disorders it is treatable and there are things you can do to help yourself. I started off with major depression and it eventually developed into bipolar disorder. I’m on the right meds at the right dose rn and it keeps my moods relatively stable. I have my highs and lows still but with less frequency and intensity. It can definitely be upsetting getting a new diagnosis but I always try and keep in mind that it’s better to have that awareness.

It isn't. My mum has Bipolar, and so does my aunt. There are great counselors and medicine of there for your use. Ask ask ask. It's a work your butt off world for those living with Bipolar, and who have loved ones who with it. I'm pretty sure I'm Bipolar 2, but have no diagnosis. You'll be alright. Sending strength!
