anyone have any tips on how to stop feeling (and probably acting) so awkward all the time? even around my closest friend i feel so awkward and weird. im always worried about how my face and body look (like if i’m making a weird face or my posture is off), im always thinking about how awkward i said something, the tiniest bit of silence physically hurts because it’s so awkward. i just always feel SO AWKWARD AND WEIRD! im sick of it, i feel so out of place as a human. it’s like there’s everyone else, and then there’s me. i feel almost alien, like everyone else took a class on how to be a human and they all just go with the flow and i’m stuck worrying about how my arms are resting. it’s exhausting.

Hi! Alot of individuals bring borders and things to social situations to decrease and protect themselves from vulnerability. This is a really common (and inconvenient) feeling to experience. One thing you can do to help this is develop a social safety system. For example: In social situations i find it hard to talk to other people and keep a very flat expression: to combat this; before i go into a social situation i spend a couple minutes reminding myself that everything is okay. There are also many other things you can do to help this. •tensing and relaxing muscles •chew gum •lean back and softly smile with a deep breath (sounds stupider than it actually is) • raise eyebrows slightly (eyebrow wag) • bring small fidgets (i really like fidget rings because they are discreet) These are just a couple but there are many different ways you can decrease awkwardness in social situations. Remember its okay to feel awkward or tense even around close friends! Social anxiety is difficult and dont be afraid to be vulnerable!
