Hey there. My name is Katie. I’m a new member of The Sunshine DID System. I’m not sure how to make friends with the other alters because I’m not a Christian and most of them are, including the host. I am kinda scared about talking to people and I have had lots of religious Trauma. So I need some advice on how I should approach them.

Hi it’s ok to be scared but if you want to speak just go for it it’s ok not to be religious to the main religion heck I’m not religious at all I’m spirituality I criticise religion a lot but when I’m around someone religious to god I keep my manners and I respect them for that if they try changing my beliefs I however do say to them “ look I’m not religious and I will keep it that way can you please respect my beliefs as I do yours” that is a way of communicating without sounding offensive or just speak to them normally if they go into to much detail on them just say “can you please stop I’m not religious like you my beliefs are different” and just when they stop you thank them but don’t go into detail on your beliefs just think of something you both like and chat on from there

Hi Katie, I don't have a system but I have a family who is very religious. I also have religious trauma and can find it difficult to connect with them. What I do is focus on our commonalities to bring us together, but still celebrate and respect our differences. I hold boundaries, for example: I don't like when they tell me they'll pray for me. I don't mind when they talk about church but not about their faith or my lack of faith. The boundaries have to be yours but those work well for me. And not all of my family can respect my boundaries which is their choice, so I choose to not be as close with them. My best advice is to find something you and another alter both love and start a connection there. I hope this helps 💕
