If you could change anything about your relationship with your physician, what would you change?

If I could select every single option, I would!! I am ALWAYS disappointed when I leave a doctor's appointment.

Access to a regularly-available woman physician. The only people I can get into are whatever registrar is on, and nowhere seems to be taking new patients lately. I'd also be fine with having a regular male physician as long if they took my concerns seriously.

I wish my doctors would stop telling me it's my fault I was abused since birth

I'd like to be able to have an ongoing physician that is queer- and trans-affirming, but I keep having to hop from doctor to doctor bc of them leaving the practice I use. (It's a queer-focused company with sliding-scale, but the management is not great so there's a lot of employee turnover.)

      Definitely the cost

    • RMSjohns

      337d

The cost of meds and the issues with drugs that work and insurance will not pay. I have been given so many, like Orencia will cost me 1700$ a month! I am on Soc Security Disability. I only get 750$ a month. Fortunately my husband has a good job, but not enough for that price. So frustrating!

After a lifetime of being gaslit and dismissed, I have given up. I would rather not be here than listen to one more condescending twit ask if I've tried panadol.

Find a compatible doctor. It’s like finding a compatible friend or lover Use astrology

    • TurtleRose

      338d

I would prefer all my doctors actually working and communicating together, even possibly meeting all my Dr's in the same appointment once a year. I would like to at least be able to text the drs directly and know they will be the ones responding

Longer appointment times and after appointment cre and follow up (e.g. on referrals)

I need to be able to be seen by my specialist doctor more than ONCE EVERY THREE MONTHS!!!!!!!

      • lasaaagna

        342d

@Aiya_the_ill so true lmao. my condition is so rare that there is literally nowhere else I can ask? the only resources for it are medical journals and natl org for rare diseases…would appreciate being able to have my questions answered

    • SueLaBear

      351d

I need to find a new one but don't know where to begin. I need one, but at the same feel fine on my own because I've dealt with a lot of problems by myself

    • lillypod21

      352d

More time and access to my doctor outside the appointment.

@lillypod21 YEAH my condition is so rare the only resources for it are medical journals and natl org for rare diseases…would appreciate being able to have my questions answered

Believing me? I had my physician tell me I was lying about my symptoms/making them up because she hadn’t seen it in Ehlers Danlos before. And I thought “I have got these physical symptoms and they’re pretty fucking real”

    • Mashka

      356d

How are we, a patients, being charged a fee for being late or missing our appointment...while we show up on time and wait 1-2 hours... there's a reason people are starting to turn to "witch doctors"

    • Boudicca

      357d

To have one would be nice. There isn't an adult ADHD service in my area. It simply doesn't exist. I had to go private for diagnosis, and ran out of money. So I can't access a specialist at all.

    • Belugabear

      357d

I wish my physicians talked to each other more! I’m getting all of this conflicting advice and treatments, and if I could find some that would work as a team I think things would go a lot smoother

    • Mashka

      357d

      All of the above.

Stop asking me about my religion and saying things like "well God believes in you." Still an atheist. I just want my medicine.

        @Tacos yesss it's so annoying

I would love for their notes, comments, etc. (that are put in your file) to state the same thing as what they actually tell you personally. For someone who suffers from widespread whole body pain, it is very detrimental for the Dr to be vague and misleading in their documentation. For example: one of my old pain Drs would ask me specifically, "How is your back pain today?" I would answer specifically how my back pain was. "Today, my back pain is not too bad." In his documentation in my file, he wrote, "Patient denies being in pain today." That is not a true statement and is very misleading.

Less of an ego. Every dr I have ever interacted with has either tried to k*ll me or has successfully and completely screwed me over.

      • Bre19

        359d

        @Bijoux_bean22 felt this

My primary Physician listens and gives me quality time. It’s the specialist they send you too, they are in a hurry and just want to throw an RX at you. I have seen three Rheumatologist and every single one of them have a different opinion so I have decided to not see them anymore. Just see my primary.

    • DragonLady47

      362d

For her to be on time for my appointment not 45 minutes late.

      • Bre19

        359d

        @DragonLady47 geez that's not ok

    • Notesapppoet

      362d

To not write everything off as a symptom of depression even after I explicitly told them that I had brought a friend with me because I was nervous I would be written off 🙄🙄🙄

    • vicky123

      363d

Not having every symptom dismissed or blamed on previous diagnosis. Not being gaslit about the severity of my symptoms and it being all blamed on "mental heath" or having a difficult childhood.

      • Bre19

        359d

        @vicky123 agree 100%

    • katitomato

      363d

I just want to be believed when I express my symptoms! I often feel docs think I’m exaggerating and they care more about “being right” than they do about listening to me with empathy and providing the proper care based off of what I’ve actually expressed to them!

    • SelkieRose

      363d

For communication to be smoother between them and the specialists/hospital. They give everything and then I have to let their receptionist know to chase up things the specialists could just send through in a simple discharge summary... Continuation of care is nearly impossible so I'm constantly repeating myself for every professional I have to see...

    • itsGarfield

      364d

More education around non verbal communication methods

        359d

        @itsGarfield so true

    • Maxxxxx

      365d

I would make them less cautious because i’m tired of going on ssris for months just for them to not work. I need benzos but nobody will give them

    • NyxiAnyaOrnimae

      365d

When I say I have RA in my back, hips, neck, shoulders, elbows, and knees, please stop touching my hands and feet. It's not in my wrists or ankles. Those are all in your documentation. These are the reasons I'm getting a referral to a different Rheumatologist...

    • Noir

      366d

Professionals that are actually resourceful and carry empathy.

    • Dillybop

      366d

My physician talks to me like a Dad and says stuff like “Oh you’re such a pretty girl you shouldn’t be hurting yourself” and “start living with your mom don’t move in with your boyfriend” and “so are you still living with…The Boyfriend” and “….. God is good (and other variations)” 😑

      • Min11

        332d

        @Dillybop That's not appropriate, I'd ask for a different doctor I think

    • AuntieR

      366d

My doc moved to California and I hate that she did that! We had a very open, honest patient/doctor relationship and she was very empathetic. I had to choose another doc who I am going to meet in person, soon. I have sort of a ptsd (from 2018 and my near death experience) and this new doc basically wants me to get over it! She pretty much told me if I don’t get vaccinated that she didn’t want to see me and I would truly understand anxiety if I got Covid! Pretty crappy thing to say…. I now am kinda forced to see her in order to get my prescriptions updated and refilled, then I may have to search for a new doc….

      • carameldoughnuts00

        360d

@AuntieR could you request another doctor? The new one sounds horrible lol, i don't think i have a main doctor myself but if I'm going in for something i find hard i request a sympathetic nice one lol

    • Knees

      367d

I wish it could be put simply. Respect, I guess? I feel like my doctors act like my pain is not real and as if I am faking and as if I am not valid in my pain. I wish they could respect me as a young person in a lot of pain.

    • Jacket

More availability for casual meetings. So many times wasters farming insurance or just don't give a shit. Would love to be able to have a meet and greet for a nominal fee to weed out the mass amount of slackers.

    • Belz

      368d

For him to believe me when I talk about my pain and not question the ra diagnosis that my previous doctor who retired gave me!!!

    • Greco

      368d

Know more about alternative medicine instead of just handing you a prescription

@Greco yes this is a great one to mention

    • hydroepilepic21

      368d

Being able to talk to them without my parents jumping and answering and being asked questions.

      • Haleybug22

        334d

@hydroepilepic21 go alone you can do this if you prefer at most places how old are u

      • KratomEater

        365d

@hydroepilepic21 you may try and ask the doctor to have some of the time alone with them to address things you want in private? May be hard to catch them when your parents have already walked out of the room at the end. Do you have a way to message your doctor personally? Then you could ask them to request your parents give you privacy

    • Blue_Penguin

      368d

Why this was set up as "choose only one". I wanted to click most of them, and hard to decide which was more important. They all are. Very much reflects what many of us are dealing with when we go to a med appt - you might get this one thing, but none of the others.

Less arrogance and incompetence would be nice... I always feel like only half my struggles are due to my actual condition while the other half is caused by getting screwed over by the 'professionals' I have to deal with.

@Ceramie yes so true which is unfortunate

I would prefer if he told me which fricking type of dermatitis I had💀
