I'm a college student living in a tiny apartment with three people who eat gluten and no matter how careful I am I just keep getting sick. I don't have money to eat enough anyway and I especially don't have enough money to eat prepackaged things I know are safe so I'm stuck eating too little that makes me sick anyway. Usually I get glutened about once a week but I think while I was gone my roommate's boyfriend used my special gluten free pan because it's the only thing I use to cook and I've been glutened every day the past two weeks. I just feel kind of hopeless and also extremely glutened and I'm just so sick of it

That sucks so much!! It sounds like you just need to have a sit down with your roommates about how serious your celiac disease condition is and have open and honest conversation about it so they understand how to help you so you can take better care of yourself!

I’m so sorry :(( I understand the non gluten free roommates situation, it’s definitely rough. I recommend buying a cast iron pan, they’re reasonably priced and they’re the only pan you can put in an oven at high temperatures! Gluten proteins are destroyed at about 500* F and your oven should get up to that when you use the “clean” function, so if you suspect there’s gluten on your pan you can just throw it in the oven on clean for an hour! Also a lot of colleges have food security programs that allow you to get food for free without taking any of your information. I really hope your campus has something like that. Sending virtual hugs your way❤️

Hey! Not exactly the same experience but I was in a government program with a team of 7 non gluten-free people and we had a budget of $5 per person per day for meals. I’d be happy to tell you how I made it work on such a low budget AND how I prevented my roommates from poisoning me everyday.
