When I felt that way, I bought a book called "The Power of Meaning" by Emily Esfahani Smith. It uses science and psychology to look at how people all over the world find meaning in life. The author proposed that meaningful choices are more important than feeling happy, and meaning is comprised of belonging in relationships, having valuable goals, telling your story, and having spiritual experiences. My takeaway was to focus in improving relationships with people I care about. We can speculate about how are souls came to exist on earth. We can believe in science or religion. We can worry about mortality, heaven, and hell. All we can be sure of is that we are here now and it's up to each human how to best spend your time on Earth so that hopefully you look back without much regret. I'm writing this having spent the day laying in bed mourning the recent loss of my dog. During her life, she was there for me and I was there for her. As far as I can tell, that was the actual point. To love and be loved.

Whats the point has many answers and I can answer that with a few one of which might get a little religious and I apologize if that offends anyone (atheist or of other religions) or if it’s unwanted. One of which is to learn and grow and flourish to the best version if our selves which ties into my next one where it’s basically that God created us and sent us to earth to gain knowledge and understanding and that one day we will return when we have learned all that we can and have reached the best of our abilities. Along with enjoying it you only live once and you should live it to the fullest whatever you definition of the fullest is. And it’s hard because you learn from mistakes, failures and trials (problems or hardships is better word for it) not success or a perfect environment then is no room to have fun or learn in that kind of scenario. I understand as someone on the path to recovery of depression how hard it is and having to live constantly wanting to die if you want to talk *please* dm me
