I feel disconnected from myself. When I look at myself from 16 and under I don't feel like that was ever me. The best way I can describe it is that it feels like I killed that kid and took their place, and no one noticed a thing. I wish I knew what this was called.

i feel similarly, detached from myself before a few years ago. this is a symptom of debilitating childhood trauma, the brain stops you from fully comprehending that the child was you because the pain would be so much more severe. this is dissociation. your brain dissociated to protect you from what it knows you cannot handle

@KeiXyr Also, there is a great book that helped me understand trauma. It's called "The Body Keeps the Score" and it talks about the mechanics of this and how we can overcome it with different types of therapies. What I appreciate is it's not just telling you "This is why you're going through this pain," but it tells you "and this is what can be done to work through it." It brought me hope and I'm doing EMDR therapy now to get past my trauma and I've never felt more at peace.

@KeiXyr i am glad that it helps you. remember, all of these abnormal thoughts, feelings, and sensations have root causes. if given enough time and care, the severity can lessen. please let me know if you need any advice or just want to vent
