Feeling Disconnected from Close Family

Does anyone else feel a disconnect with their close family? Especially their parents. It's weird because I don't actively hate them, they bother me with how they handle some things but are fine beyond that. Its just that I hear alot of people my age talk like their parents are the keys to quickly feeling safe and protected. It might be bc I was an independent child who was very different from my family, but even now that I'm a couple years older I find no solidarity or safety in them like I'm told I should, they just feel like another set of people to me.
