How do you deal with feeling like you're faking? I know this is real. I know I'm not faking. And yet, I'm still so anxious because "what if I am?"

I've been struggling a lot with the same thoughts, it's actually manifested in avoidant behaviors like delaying appointments. I'm not sure who had the idea but we plan on making a huge list of every terrible thing we think about when we feel like we're "faking" to show to our therapist. Typically, trying to convince your therapist that you're actually faking and just a master manipulator will result in some very jarring reality checks for you šŸ˜… at least it does for us, if you're in a safe place to be completely rooted in the reality of the disorder, I'd recommend trying this!

Weā€™ve ended up keeping a list of trauma and situations where weā€™ve switched for sure, as well as asking those around us for proof of switches. We remember it when we have bad faking moments n shit. Like solid proof that weā€™re not making it up.

For us, what helps the most is reminding ourselves that sitting in our room having hours-long switches and dissociation can't be faked. Why would I spend hours staring blankly at a wall for attention? There are so many symptoms of DID other than having alters that we can't ignore or boil down to attention-seeking.
