I met a girl a couple months ago who decided she wanted to be my friend and I was happy to be her friend at first but now she’s calling me her best friend and sending me 1739372920 memes a day and all she ever talks about is how lonely she is and her relationship drama. It’s honestly annoying and it’s hard for me to like her anymore. I don’t want to be her friend. It’s hard for me to say no to people and I can’t find a good way to word what I want to say. “Hi you’re annoying and I don’t want to be your friend anymore”?? Sorry for the bluntness. I know it’s rude and I don’t want to hurt her but this “friendship” is exhausting. Please help.

I would try to express a boundary if you liked her before she started to be a bit much for you. Boundaries about you do not want to hear about all of her drama or excessive comments about being lonely, because that can bring your mood down too and it IS stressful. But since it seems like you didn’t really want to be that kind of friend in the first place and maybe just wanted to be more like acquaintances or even nothing I’d just ghost her a bit as awful as that sounds. People don’t get how stressful it is when you have a friend like that till they have one!

I know it gets tough being someone's friend when they're exceptionally annoying. I deal with that with my friend and it drives me nuts sometimes. A break can do wonders. Have you told her that you don't want your phone blown up a million times with memes? You can also try giving advice on how to deal with loneliness
@Chloe_Rae that’s a good idea. And I sound like a terrible person. I just think she wants more than I can give and she latched on to me so quickly when I never really wanted her friendship. And now she dumps everything on me constantly and it’s more than I can handle. I want to set boundaries without being mean.
@mandatheperson I don't think you're mean to feel that way. I would too if I were put in that situation. If you truly don't want to be her friend just slowly stop talking to her and eventually she'll take a hint. Don't be as responsive. You can also tell her how you feel. You aren't bound to a person for being nice to them. She seems like she came on hard and strong with her friendship and it sounds like it's too much. Try to tell her you need your space and will message her when you feel up to it
