I have no motivation and no energy, I don't even know what the first step is. I shower twice a month if I'm lucky and brush my teeth once a week. I'm lucky I have a boyfriend who already loves me

Focus on one thing at a time. On days when I can't get myself up out of bed, I wiggle my toes. It sounds silly, but action helps to motivate. If you can do one tiny thing, you'll be able to make through the day. Also, meditation has helped me a lot in learning to accept my depression. Apps like headspace are good for when you have zero energy or motivation, because they require very little energy to use. Sanvello has helped me identify my feelings super well, and I'd highly recommend it. You might be surprised to find that the lows aren't happening as often as you think, that it's just what your brain is focusing on. I've also found that even in my worst moments there's positive feelings buried there, and vice versa, sometimes even contradictory feelings. An example would be feeling hopeless, yet stimulated. Or betrayed, yet content. The best advice I've gotten is to stop hoping that things will get better, because sometimes they don't. But they do get easier. I can promise you that. It's not nearly as painful as time goes on, because your brain eventually creates a new baseline for itself. Savor the good and okay moments. Take it all in, and take advantage on your good days. Do laundry, ride your bike, meal prep, call a friend, clean your room, shower, go to the park etc. etc. You've got this. You've already come this far. If I can do it, if my friends can do it, then I know that you can too. You are loved, and you are awesome for persevering and for actually reaching out for help. So many people in this world take their woes out on others, but you are here, simply seeking to better yourself. That alone is something to be proud of. I hope this helped. šŸ§”

Try using things like rewards after big activities. I like to tell myself I can read after a shower as much as I want. Change it to your main thing. Teeth brushing is super hard, but buying toothbrushes with the toothpaste already on it would really help. You donā€™t need water, and you can keep them on your bedside table. Motivation is really hard to gain back, but little steps will help you get back up there.

I also shower once a week generally, and brush my teeth (almost) every morning (or whenever I start my day... Sometimes afternoon). I find that I'm able to do this much pretty consistently because it's part of my routine. When I get up for the day I go to the bathroom, put in my lenses and brush my teeth. Every Friday I shower and iron my hair for the weekend. I find that it becomes second nature in a routine and takes less effort. Small steps, you got this šŸ’•

I struggle with hygiene too! Iā€™m showering once or maybe twice a week. I brush my teeth every other day usually. I donā€™t know why it's so hard to get motivated and do these tasks that ought to be simple. I just keep trying over again taking one day at a time.

You are lucky that you have that close person in your Life. And showering twice a month is better than not at all. Try to Focus on what is good and try to run away from self-criticism. You are doing the best you can. Hang in therešŸ™
