I'm 34 and was diagnosed with gastroparesis about 10 years ago through a gastro-emptying study. However, in looking at the symptoms, I don't know that the diagnosis is right. Until recently (like this month), I rarely became nauseated. I've always been a big eater, I'm not malnourished. I have had stomach issues from birth (spitting up consumed food), and maybe I've just always had it so I didn't develop those symptoms in the same way. I don't know. The doc that diagnosed me dismissed me when I refused to be on the medication he prescribed because it made me extremely jittery. A doctor a few years later told me I just "have an intolerance to all food" and dismissed me. I have another stomach emptying coming up and hope I will learn more, but I am wondering how common any of this is.

@McPeaches79 so it sounds then like this happens for a lot of people. I'm hoping I'm not just dismissed this time.

Hey there! Was diagnoses in Feb 2011 with Gastroparesis (GP). It's been a Rollercoaster. I have had an NJ, J tube and pyloroplasty, Stomach neurostimulater, GJ, and Port. I got neurostimulater removed after a year. Still have tube since like 2013. Tried Reglan and Domperidone. Both not for me. Tried Desperine and Erythromycin. Had reactions. Tried Gabapentin and again nothing.

For me, nausea is a huge thing. I lost somewhere around 40lbs (started heavy, fortunately) in a few month's time. Probably actually much less time, but I wasn't tracking. I have learned that GP seems to be...not a catch-all, but very flexible in terms of how it affects individuals. Some manage great with only an altered diet, while some need feeding tubes. I personally seem to fall somewhere in the middle, towards the milder side. But ask me when I've gone a week without eating, I might say something else! I was only dx'd in June, about a month and a half ago, after a few days in the hospital and an emptying study which confirmed my stomach is slow, but that's ALL I know. I'm set up to do an endoscopy soon to see if they find anything else.

@1stMayflowers Oh, I never had (lasting) abnormal GI issues until around April of this year. I seem to be unbelievably lucky to have gotten a dx so fast.
