my friends think I have a eating disorder because I am constantly skipping meals and throwing up even when I am not sick and it's been going on for months but I brought it up to my therapist and she thinks it is because I am sad it's almost like she doesn't believe me

If definitely doesn't sound like you're walking away feeling validated by your therapist. Even if she thinks the root of the problem is sadness or depression, even if at best she thinks it is an eating disorder but that is an eating disorder that is generated from depression, it sounds like what you need most from her is for her to directly acknowledge that your behaviors line up with the criteria for an eating disorder Can you be very direct with her and tell her you need that from her, that you need her to be informed about EDs and acknowledge your behavior because feeling dismissed or not believed by her is hurting the therapeutic relationship?

@SunInAugust I will try to be very direct with her it's just hard because I don't like to speak up about things. I go see my phycologist in a few weeks and my mom said if she says it's not a ed then my mom is going to be taking me to my doctor that has know me since I was little.

@mollymae it sounds like your mom is on your side and that's good! I know its hard to speak up about things like that or set boundaries. Your therapist should be a good person to practice with, a safe one
