Some people deal with this by telling others straight up: 'If you want me to hear you, you're either gonna have to come closer or speak up, cuz I'm deaf-ish.' They either do one of those two things, or prove themselves a dick by not doing so. If they don't, I'll call them out. 'Haven't miraculously regained my hearing in the last 3 seconds. Still can't hear you.' Wash, rinse, repeat until they either make it so you can hear them, or they get embarrassed and leave. Others keep it simple and say they’re having a difficult time hearing them. Some just act like they hear them and nod their head because they don't want to ask them what they just said multiple times.
