how do you deal with people trying to compliment you in a way that really hurts? I visited an uncle today and he said that he could see me out in the field and that I had an amazing career ahead of me... I still haven't come to terms with the fact that I will probably never be employed.

Have you seen someone to see if there's anything you can do regarding the fatigue? Overall I'm sure you'll still find something that works for you, even if it's non-traditional! Contractor type work in particular where it's a project at a time vs clocking in every day might be a little better for your energy, things like video editing, graphic design, house cleaning, etc Whatever route you go I'm sure you'll have a fantastic future, and it's also okay if you end up being happier and have a better well-being not working

I'm sorry to hear that it's developed that way. I can understand how you would feel discouraged by that. Not sure what the nature was of these jobs, full-time or not... By the sounds of it, something maybe not as full-time might be helpful, do as you have time and energy for. Also, it sounds like your passion for things can bring forth a lot of energy, but without the proper self-care activities to replenish the pots get drained (and thus crash). I could be totally wrong. It's also possible that the understanding employers created a situation where there was no anxiety rather than a healthy balanced anxiety. What are your thoughts?

I second that it might not be a traditional route. While I can't say I have the same experience, there have been times where I've had my challenges at work, including bad exhaustion. A few things have made a difference to me. Being in a space where I am comfortable and feel accepted limitations and all, as well as something that I care about have really helped me, along with space and time to be able to use coping skills for my challenges. A lot of what I personally see for myself in the future are projects that I hope to be able to flesh out and design and problem-solve to achieve. Sometimes what creates limitations and changes in perspective allow us to see things differently and how to improve overlooked aspects.

@welpe every time I've crashed it was from employers who were more understanding and adapting than they should have been, practically paying me to sleep, and projects that I've been really passionate and excited about. I felt very safe in these places, not much anxiety at all.

@Lightswitch have spent years trying to help the fatigue problem. No diagnosis or discovered solution. I guess I forgot to mention that he was talking about geology/mineralogy, going out and digging up specimens and stuff. It... was? Is? Idk, my dream job. I worked a remote online gig answering emails for about a year and it didnt give me any problems, so I could return to something like that. But the thing my uncle was complimenting me on and what I've spent a ton of time in college for is kind of ruined.

What was the intent behind what he said?

@Chesbro99 he's really proud of me, and thinks I'm very smart and good at what I do. He wanted me to know he was sure I had a successful life ahead of me, I guess.

I don't know how to answer your question. Why do you believe you probably never be employed?

@Zellie fatigue. Three weeks of work makes me unable to stay awake. I'll sleep 20 hours a day for another 3 weeks straight. That's not healthy, let alone an employer who would cater to that kind of thing.
