I was in a very toxic and abusive relationship that I tried for nearly two years to make better and keep the relationship alive, I quit school to help him with his academic career, I isolated myself from friends in order to invest into my relationship with him, I basically forced my parents to allow him to live with us rent free for 9 months, I’ve helped him move 3 times while we were together and always tried to steer him in the right direction. I have been doing better lately and have met the most amazing man since my relationship has ended, but it is still very hard at times to deal with these things especially since I isolated myself from whatever support I used to have.

I too have found myself isolated in my own town because of a manipulative ex. I worked myself nearly to death. It helps to find groups to join like roller derby or knitting groups, book clubs or volunteering. It's good to build connections outside the relationship. It takes time to build support but it's worth it.
