My therapist has told me things like cold showers or splashing cold water on the face can help. But I think it's really anything that can get your mind focused on something that has nothing to do with whatever could be causing it. Exercise, I found that just counting can help. Count to whatever number you want, however you want. I also found sitting in my bathtub with no water was similar to taking a cold shower as my bathtub is always cold. Taking a deep breath and just focusing on the annoying cold tub touching my skin.
