AFAB Peeps: do y’all have any idea what could cause consistent massive blood clots when on your period? They are almost always the size of what I like to call “well fed leeches”. They’ve been like this ever since I started back in 6th grade and I thought they were normal. They are approximately an inch in diameter and two to three inches long, and if I had to guess id say they were at least 2-3 cm thick. Very gross description, I know.

When I get clots in my period, my acupuncturist says it's a hormone imbalance. I don't think I've ever had my hormones checked (too many different tests to remember them all) but whatever he does helps reduce the clotting. The first time I experienced clotting was when I used the paraguard IUD. Giant clots like you describe and massive bleeding. My period never totally went back to normal after I got it removed a year later but it's much better with acupuncture treatment. Insurance is getting better about having acupuncture as an in network benefit if you haven't and want to look into it. Good luck! I know how uncomfortable what you're experiencing is.
